Robin personifies what makes this kind of guitar and the music played on it something that won’t fade away. Gypsy jazz guitar, as it’s known in the US, is so compelling that we want to emulate it in every detail. So we go and buy the books and take the workshops and practice and practice and hope that some day…
In the face of all that, here is this maverick taking a virtually polar opposite approach to the guitar and standing shoulder to shoulder with our heroes the Tchavolos and the Stochelos. It’s the originality and uniqueness of Robin’s ideas that pulls us in even as we realize that he doesn’t do anything like what’s in the books. Except his books of course.
People with stubbornly independent vision like Robin will keep acoustic guitar jazz alive and growing. Thanks to Robin, the world of the Selmer/Macaferri guitar is a big tent. He has demonstrated that there’s room for everybody with great ideas.

Brilliant!!!
Robin, you are one of our most tasteful GJ guitar players today and these tunes further exemplify your creative resources. Never thought that I would dig “Something Stupid” in this genre – but you made it work marvelously!!!
I am playing some of your licks from Licks II at gigs now and getting accolades for “my” creative skills (Ha ha!).
Thanks for supporting this wonderful music and being so generous with your musical insights!!!

hey Rob,
what a wonderful way to hear that stupid tune come at me. Indeed nothing stupid about it, it’s all in the presentation, which you have nicked to perfection. Thanks for posting and keep on swinging .. . . . . .

Sorry to have missed you in Mill Valley [Marin] California – the publicity was amiss, and I felt terribly sad to have missed you. Next time you’re in CA, let us know!
I remain heartbroken, but faithful ~
